What gift do you give to your husband who’s been around the world and has it all? Carole found the perfect present with Top Wedding Singer Ike Moriz - but with a creative twist!
Her husband Michael had met international singing sensation Ike Moriz (18 CD releases) at a garden party of the Rotary Club held at the German ambassador’s residence a few years back and after seeing Ike again at his recent performance with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra on Valentine’s Day it was clear that they wanted him to sing at Michael's upcoming 60th birthday celebration.
Carole and her husband decided to book SA’s pop and jazz star Ike Moriz together with renowned saxophonist and navy big band leader Willie van Zyl to entertain them at the famous Piano Bar in Cape Town’s vibrant De Waterkant. This would have been the perfect gift, however, Michael obviously already knew about it..
Carole, who is a very creative PR and marketing professional with her company Brand Switch, had re-written the lyrics to one of her husband’s favourite songs, the Sinatra-classic ‘My Way’, as a gift and tribute to Michael. Loving this gesture, Ike had agreed to singing this version especially for Michael at the upcoming celebration.
Then Ike’s booking agent Madri had another great idea: Why not record this personalized version with Ike's smooth crooner vocals and hand it over as a surprise present on the day!?!
Carole loved the idea! As time was of the essence, a top Cape Town studio, SAMA nominated Paris Recording Studios, was booked immediately and Ike went in to record this unique rendition of the timeless classic.
Needless to say, both the birthday-boy and his party guests who had gathered in Cape Town’s popular live music venue The Piano Bar, enjoyed this tribute to a man who is known among friends and colleagues for always tackling life in his own inspiring way - or as Carole said, in “his way”!
And the party went on… Michael Zipp and his wife Carole Armstrong-Hooper dancing to Ike’s rendition of ‘My Way':
